CULTURAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES and the GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA,
DESIROUS of strengthening the friendly relations existing between the Filipino and Korean peoples, and of promoting and developing their relations in the fields of culture, art and science,
REAFFIRMING their strong bonds of cooperation in the cultural and social fields through the Cultural and Social Centre for the Asian and Pacific Region, HAVE AGREED as follows:
ARTICLE I
The High Contracting Parties shall promote between them the development of mutual relations in the cultural, artistic and scientific fields through various means including:
a. The exchange and diffusion of radio and television programs, books, periodicals and other publications:
b. The encouragement of translations of each other's literary and artistic works;
c. The exchange of scholars, scientists and student groups and the facilitation of their research studies through scholarship grants;
d. The exchange of visits of newsmen, writers, artists, musicians and dancers, and the promotion of their activities;
e. The encouragement of art and cultural exhibitions;
f. The promotion of athletics and friendly competition in sports.
ARTICLE II
Each High Contracting Party shall encourage the establishment and development in its universities and institutions of higher learning, of chairs, courses and lectures on the culture, including the language, literature, art and history, of the other.
ARTICLE III
Each High Contracting Party shall encourage the exploration of the means through degrees, diplomas and other certificates obtained in the other may be recognized in its territory for academic purposes.
ARTICLE IV
Each High Contracting Party shall, in accordance with its laws and regulations, facilitate the establishment and development in its territory of cultural institutions of the other.
ARTICLE V
The High Contracting Parties shall consult with each other, when necessary, on matters of details and additional arrangements for the fruitful implementation of this Agreement.
ARTICLE VI
The Agreement shall enter into force on the thirtieth day after the date on which the High Contracting Parties shall have notified each other that all legal requirements for its entry into force have been complied with.
ARTICLE VII
The present Agreement shall remain in force unless terminated by either High Contracting Party giving a prior written notice of six months to the other.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the undersigned, being duly authorized by their respective Governments, have signed this Agreement and have affixed hereunto their seals.
DONE at Seoul this eighth day of August in the year one thousand nine hundred and seventy, in six originals; two in Pilipino, two in Korean, and two in English, all texts being equally authentic.
