AGREEMENT FOR COOPERATION IN THE PEACEFUL USES OF ATOMIC ENERGY BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND ISRAEL

Note: The Agreement entered into force, January 14, 1969.

Reference: This Agreement is also published in VIII DFA TS No. 1, p. 90.

WHEREAS the peaceful uses of atomic energy hold great promise for the I peoples of the Philippines and Israel; and

WHEREAS the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the State of Israel desire to cooperate with each other in the development of peaceful uses of atomic energy for the advancement of the social, scientific and economic development of the two nations;

THE PARTIES, therefore, agree as follows:

ARTICLE I

The two Governments agree to exchange experts and students with the objective of training personnel for the organization and execution of programmes designed to increase the benefits to their respective national programmes. The costs of such training will be as agreed upon in each case.

ARTICLE II

The two Governments will share their knowledge and experience in the production, preparation, distribution and utilization of short-lived isotopes in medicine, agriculture, industry and general scientific research.

ARTICLE III

The planning and implementation of the aforesaid purposes is being entrusted in the Republic of the Philippines to the Philippine Atomic Energy Commission, and in Israel to the Atomic Energy Commission. The said institutions shall also determine the extent of each project of collaboration as j well as the sources of finance.

ARTICLE IV

Representatives of the national institutions as set out in Article III shall consult from time to time and as often as the occasion requires, with a view to consider ways and means of extending the cooperation for the advancement of peaceful uses of atomic energy in their respective countries.

ARTICLE V

This Agreement shall enter into force on the 14th day of January 1969, and shall remain in force until one of the Contracting Parties gives notice of termination, to become effective six months after the date of notification.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF the undersigned, duly authorized thereto by their respective Governments, have signed the present Agreement.

DONE in duplicate at Manila this 14th day of January 1969.
