PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1983
GRANTING PHILIPPINE CITIZENSHIP TO GILLIAN AKIKO THOMSON.
WHEREAS, Gillian Akiko Thomson, a citizen of the United States of America has been a permanent resident of the Philippines practically since birth and has studied here;
WHEREAS, it has been her wish to make the Philippines her permanent home and has in her letter-application, manifested her desire to be a Filipino that being a minor her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Marsh Thomson, have given full and wholehearted consent, as expressed in their letter dated July 11, 1985;
WHEREAS, during the entire period of her stay in the Philippines, she has mingled socially with our people and has embraced and practised our traditions/customs and shared with us our aspirations;
WHEREAS, she has associated herself with Filipino athletes and has been training as a member of the Philippine team and has won six gold medals in the Rizal Memorial age group try-outs where she was allowed to compete with the implied agreement that she will be able to represent the Philippines if she is granted Philippine citizenship;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the poweres vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby grant Philippine citizenship to Gillian Akiko Thomson with all the rights, privileges and prerogatives appurtenant thereto.
This Decree shall take effect immediately.
Done in the City of Manila, this 19th day of July, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and eighty-five.
