FULL TITLE : AN ACT REGULATING THE USE OF ELECTRIC POLES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES |
SHORT TITLE : Pole Regulation Act of 2004 |
ABSTRACT : "Pole Regulation Act of 2004". Cable companies have found it convenient to lease space for their cables on telephone and electric utility poles. Utilities, in turn, have found it convenient to charge monopoly rates. These rentals are, subsequently, passed on by the cable companies to cable television subscribers. The bill aims to regulate the use of electric poles and other support structures by cable television companies for a pole attachment. The passage of the bill is expected to encourage the growth and development of cable and telecommunications systems, encourage them to provide the widest possible diversity of information sources and services to the public and promote competition in cable communications. |

Abstract
