ABSTRACT : Rationale: The quality of a person's life is not only determined and enhanced by physical health but more so by mental and emotional stability. It is so easy to forget that the diseases of the mind are often more virulent and have greater impact onthe lives of people than the diseases of the body. Furthermore, soundness of body requires mental and emotional equilibrium. Mental health not only enhances the physical well-being of people, it assures their place as productive members of societyand permits them to make informed and intelligent decisions to be able to live and experience life to the fullest. > The inclusion of psychiatry as a medical board subject will not only increase the chances that psychiatry be recognized as a significcant medical discipline and elevated to its rightful place in the medical community.
