FULL TITLE : AN ACT PRESCRIBING A FIXED TERM FOR THE CHIEF OF STAFF AND MAJOR SERVICE COMMANDERS OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
SHORT TITLE : Prescribing a Fixed Term for the Chief of Staff and Major Service Commanders of the AFP
ABSTRACT : Programs of whatever nature usually require a certain length of time to materialize. The person at the helm should likewise enjoy a length of service or security of tenure, to allow him/her adequate time to plan, test and execute programs. This bill endeavors to shield the selection process for the Chief of Staff and Major Service Commanders of the Armed Forces of the Philippines from political and personal considerations by fixing their term of office to 3 years and 2 years, respectively. Extension of term shall not be allowed except for the Chief of Staff whose term may be extended in cases of war or national emergency.
