FULL TITLE : AN ACT DECLARING A NATIONAL POLICY ON PEACE ZONES |
SHORT TITLE : The Peace Zones Policy Act of 2004 |
ABSTRACT : "The Peace Zones Policy Act of 2004." This bill establishes the basic and specific policies that shall govern Peace Zones. Because of the intermittent armed conflict in Mindanao, people-initiated, community-based responses in the form of Peace Zones, also known as "Sanctuaries of Peace" and "Spaces for Peace" have mushroomed in the area. A peace zone is a geographical area which the residents themselves declare to be off-limits to armed conflicts to protect the civilians, livelihood and property from the raging war. It comprises a major grassroots constituency in the pursuit of peace processes in the national level. |
