FULL TITLE : AN ACT RATIONALIZING THE FORFEITURE AND DISPOSITION OF PROPERTY SEIZED BY THE BUREAU OF CUSTOMS, AMENDING FOR THE PURPOSE CERTAIN SECTIONS OF THE TARIFF AND CUSTOMS CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES, AS AMENDED
ABSTRACT : The government's efforts to curb smuggling and other frauds have been stymied by the indiscriminate issuance of temporary retraining orders and injuctive reliefs by judicial authorities. This measure seeks to rationalize the forfeiture and disposition procedure of goods seized by the Bureau of Customs. Under the proposed bill, the Secretary of Finance, upon the recommendation of the Commissioner of Customs, shall be empowered to summarily seize smuggled goods and to sell the same.
